It Started small then became a nightmare
Honobia, Oklahoma. Population 97, deep in the Kiamichi Mountains, Choctaw country. The Humphreys family (Tim, his wife, and three kids) live in a modest ranch house on 40 acres surrounded by thick pine forest. From around 1998 to 2000 the family initially heard noises around the house at night assuming it was just forest wildlife looking for scraps to eat. Then one day they found one of their deer had been stolen from their outdoor freezer. They figured it was just some teenagers playing a prank on them, so they moved their meat from the outdoor freezer and thought nothing more of it.
Moving the food clearly annoyed something in the woods. One night a fist-sized rock smashes through their kitchen window at 2 a.m. scattering glass all over the kitchen floor. Tim jumps up and checks outside. No one there. Then another rock flies through another window. Another time something is outside beating on the walls of the house. Another time a 50-pound boulder crashes onto their porch, splintering the wood. Those wacky teenagers... then they find 18-inch long bare human-like footprints circling around their house.
It's not teenagers...
The Attacks Escalate over 2 years
The family first noticed strange noises and unusual activity in 1998. They said the creatures would approach the house after midnight and remain close by many times until dawn. They would wiggle doorknobs and attempt to open the door, as if testing the entry points.
July to August 2000. The siege begins in earnest:
- 50 to 70 lb rocks thrown through windows and at the house weekly
- Siding ripped off the house in huge sheets
- Porch boards torn up and stacked like kindling
- Multiple creatures (3 to 5) screaming and whooping in the woods
- Game-cam captures giant handprint on window (5 fingers, 14-inch span)
- Window frame is almost pulled clean out of the wall
- A metal gate is partially crushed (100s of lbs of force required)
- The family dogs disappear one by one
The creatures also reportedly would peer through windows, and the family also reported hearing a "chattering" noise and screaming from the nearby hills when the creatures were present as if they were co-ordinating. Some unknown huge creatures are trying to open my doors in the middle of the night? I'm going to be trying to set up a 360° coverage with at least 10 of those cool UA 571-C Automated Sentry Guns from the movie Aliens the very next day. Anyways...
Tim Humphreys’ Own Words (OBRS interview, 2001)
“They were big. Eight to ten feet. Black hair, red eyes when the light hit them. One night three of them charged the porch together. I fired my 30-06 three times (in the air). They didn’t even flinch. Just turned and walked back into the trees.”
The January 2000 Shooting
So these events have been going on for around 2 years at this point and everyone wants it to end. Tims wife and kids aren't sleeping at night, they are (rightly) very afraid. It got to the point were Tims wife decided to take the kids and went to stay with her Sister in town. Tim has had enough. Tims brother, Michael, arrives to help Tim out. Then one night Tim sat in his chair armed with a 30-06 hunting rifle waiting for whoever it was attacking their house to come. Then it happened.
Around 1 a.m. in the morning the dogs started growling and barking like crazy towards the front door. The two men both stood up instantly and head towards the front foor. Tim quick as he could pulls the door open... and then they saw it. Only yards away stood a huge... something. It was way too big to be a human. Tim quickly shone his flashlight on it and fired his rifle. As Tim described it himself the creature was "huge, walks upright, the air smelled like a musky urine, burned hair type odor". The bullet hits the creature center mass.
Unlike other encounter reports people have had with these things were the creature(s) appear to be bulletproof this creature took off running into the woods, letting out eerie wails and howls as it sprinted away after being shot.
I'm not a gun expert but I'd guess a 30-06 hunting rifle would drop Andre the gawd damn Giant at that range, but it didn't drop whatever this was. Scarily, as if it wasn't already, Tim stated the wounded creatures wails and howls were answered by other similar sounds from the surrounding forest.
Physical Evidence of the events.
- 18 to 19 inch footprints, 7 to 8 inch wide, dermal ridges allegedly visible
- Game-cam photos of a giant handprint and partial figure
- 20+ Trees broken at 9 to 10 ft height from the ground
- 50+ lb rocks found inside house with no trajectory damage (they'd been placed there?)
There was also something about a female deer having a huge hole punched through her chest from the front and her insides were missing, so I'll count that.
Oklahoma Bigfoot Research Society Investigation
Dale “D.W.” Lee and OBRS team camp on the property for 14 nights. They record:
- Harold Benny (zoologist) reported: "Rocks started flying. One hit my tent pole and nearly knocked it over."
- Multiple whoops and screams on parabolic mics
- Wood knocks in patterns (3 knocks, pause, 3 knocks)
- Thermal footage of large heat signatures moving between trees
- Rock-throwing incidents while investigators present
- Six casts made. Average length 18.5 inches, width 7 inches, depth 3 inches. Dermal ridges and toe flexion visible.
I left out a lot here about the OBRS as there are too many conflicting naratives about what OBRS did or did not do to help Tim and his family. You can look it up easily enough if you are interested and find an interview on YouTube.
Things quieten down, until...
October 2000. Tim rigs floodlights and a siren. The creatures return once more and Tim opens fire again this time with a 12-gauge shotgun and .44 Magnum pistol. A loud scream of pain is heard. After this second shooting event activity drops by 90%. By the spring of 2001 it stops completely. Tim's wife and kids, understandably, did not want to return to the house, I wouldn't either. So the family packed up and moved.
Theories and Likelihood

3. Bears / Misidentification
Likelihood: 5%
Final Verdict
THE LONGEST, MOST VIOLENT BIGFOOT EVENT EVER? This wasn't a 1 time event lasting a few seconds. For a long, long time something huge, strong, and angry laid siege to an Oklahoma family home. They threw 50lb rocks for fun. They ripped siding off like paper. They left 18-inch human-like footprints on the ground, and huge 14-inch span handprints on windows. They were also smart enough to know when they were being watched. I don't think a bear would be that smart or crafty, or be able to throw huge 70lb rocks like baseballs.
This is easily one of the best documented, and popular, events of this type. Not sure popular is the right word to use there, I'd of been legit scared sh*tless. Honobia is still an active hotspot for these types of enounters, and other weird events, to this very day. If you visit make sure to lock your doors, and windows, at night.
